Islamabad: The loss of life toll of sectarian clashes in Kurram district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has exceeded 100, the hospital administration instructed media on Thursday. The violence erupted on Thursday when a convoy of passenger coaches carrying Shiite Muslims was ambushed within the Parachinar space, resulting in a heavy casualty, Xinhua information company reported.
The assault sparked a wave of sectarian violence between Shiite and Sunni communities, with a number of retaliatory assaults over the next days, elevating the loss of life toll to 88 as of Monday. A delegation of the provincial authorities visited the district after the coaches have been attacked, and a ceasefire had been agreed between each sects.
Nevertheless, sporadic clashes continued in the course of the ceasefire, mounting the loss of life toll to over 100. The district’s deputy commissioner Javedullah Mehsud instructed media that after the federal government delegation failed to make sure a ceasefire, tribal elders from neighbouring districts will go to Kurram on Thursday to carry a ‘Jirga,’ or tribal court docket.
The elders will attempt to persuade either side to provoke contemporary mediation to finish hostilities, the deputy commissioner stated.
