The Punjab authorities on Thursday dismissed the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Gursher Singh Sandhu for his position in Lawrence Bishnoi’s interview throughout custody on the Central Investigation Company (CIA), Kharar, in March 2023. The dismissal orders issued by the Division of Dwelling Affairs charged the suspended DSP for ‘denting the picture of the police division.’
The dismissal orders, accredited by the Punjab Public Service Fee (PPSC)—the appointing authority for Punjab Police Service cadre officers—have been issued by Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, Secretary of the Division of Dwelling Affairs.
The order highlighted that Sandhu’s misconduct and negligence throughout Bishnoi’s interview in CIA Kharar’s custody tarnished the division’s picture.

On December 26, 2024, the Punjab Public Service Fee accredited the state authorities’s proposal to dismiss Sandhu below Article 311(2)(b) of the Structure. Article 311 permits authorities to dismiss or demote officers with out a formal inquiry when such proceedings are deemed impractical.
The dismissal order said, “It isn’t fairly practicable to carry an inquiry into the chargesheet issued to Gursher Singh Sandhu, PPS (below suspension), given the non-cooperative angle of the officer.”
