Pakistan Military Confesses Position In 1999 Kargil Struggle—A Stunning Admission After 25 Years


Practically 25 years after the Kargil Struggle, the Pakistan Military has formally acknowledged its position within the battle with India. In a speech on Defence Day, Pakistan Military Chief Common Asim Munir acknowledged, “1948, 1965, 1971 or Kargil struggle between India and Pakistan, or Siachen, many have sacrificed themselves in them.”

That is the primary time the Pakistani navy has publicly confirmed its direct involvement within the 1999 Kargil Struggle. Through the battle, Islamabad had beforehand denied direct navy participation, describing the infiltrators as “Kashmiri freedom fighters” or “mujahideen” and claiming that Pakistan forces have been solely “actively patrolling” whereas “tribal leaders” occupied the heights.

Ajay Bisaria, former Indian Excessive Commissioner to Pakistan, commented to WION, “It’s nicely accepted that the Kargil misadventure didn’t assist Pakistan and was Musharraf’s folly, executed by him and a cabal of 4 generals.”
