Tensions have escalated in Kolkata as riot police clashed with protesters marching in the direction of the state secretariat, Nabanna, in response to the rape and homicide of a 31-year-old physician at RG Kar Medical Faculty and Hospital on August 9. Authorities have deployed teargas shells and water cannons to disperse the gang, who’ve responded by hurling stones on the police. When requested in regards to the protests getting uncontrolled and incidents of stone pelting, Kolkata Police DC (Central) Indrani Mukherjee informed ANI, “We’ll take care of no matter occurs and tackle it because it comes. Kolkata police have detained protesters from Howrah Bridge concerned within the ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’ march demanding justice within the RG Kar rape-murder case. The demonstrators had been subjected to tear gasoline and water cannons as they tried to breach barricades exterior the Bengal secretariat.
