New Delhi: Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sukanta Majumdar stole the highlight on the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav trend present in New Delhi on Saturday, stunning the viewers with their ramp stroll. Each ministers donned conventional northeastern-style jackets, highlighting the wealthy cultural and textile heritage of Northeast India.
The occasion, held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, celebrated the area’s vibrant cultural traditions. By carrying conventional northeastern apparel, the ministers helped shine a light-weight on the area’s beautiful craftsmanship and numerous trend legacy.
Mr. Scindia, who heads the Ministry for Communications and Improvement of the North Japanese Area, praised the occasion as a celebration of the “tradition and creativity” of the Northeast. The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 6, the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav spotlights the cultural and financial strengths of the eight northeastern states—Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim. Identified collectively because the ‘Ashtalakshmi,’ these states symbolize prosperity in numerous kinds.
The three-day competition (December 6-8) served as a platform to exhibit the area’s artisanal crafts, vibrant textile business, and distinctive Geographical Indication (GI) merchandise. Highlights included artisan exhibitions, rural markets (grameen haats), state-themed pavilions, and technical periods addressing improvement priorities within the Northeast.

Throughout the inauguration, PM Modi emphasised the federal government’s dedication to integrating the Northeast into India’s progress trajectory. “Within the final decade, we have now seen an exquisite journey of improvement within the Northeast,” he said, as reported by The Telegraph.
He additionally expressed optimism concerning the area’s future, stating that cities like Guwahati, Shillong, Imphal, and Aizawl would emerge as key facilities of progress, akin to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru. PM Modi added, “The Northeast, with its vibrant tradition and dynamic individuals, holds immense promise to propel India’s progress within the coming years.”
