About Zakir Hussain
The desk maestro died at a San Francisco hospital as a consequence of problems arising out of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, his household stated on Monday. Born on March 9, 1951, in Mumbai, Zakir was awarded the Padma Shri in 1988, Padma Bhushan in 2002 and Padma Vibhushan in 2023.
He had his early schooling at St Michael’s College in Mahim and graduated from St Xavier’s Faculty, each in Mumbai. Throughout his early days, he used to journey by practice, and if he couldn’t discover a seat, he would unfold newspapers on the ground and sleep. Throughout such journeys, in order that nobody’s toes touched his tabla, he used to sleep with the musical devices in his lap, as per PTI.
